I was the first in my family

在美国上大学的人

to attend college here in the US

有很多东西我都不知道

There was a lot l don't know'

我问过我父母

I asked my parents

怎么申请大学

how to apply to colleges

他们也说

And they too said

“我不知道”

'I don't know'

“我不知道”这几个字

The words 'I don't know'

曾让我有一种无力感

Used to make me feel powerless

就像没有答案

like there was no answer

也就没办法了

And therefore no way

仿佛是在承认失败一样

as if l was admitting defeat

从内布拉斯加州到哈佛

from Nebraska to Harvard

现在我对这种无知的感觉

I found myself redefining

有了新的定义

this feeling of not knowing

“无知”是一种态度

Not knowing is an ethical stance

它为那些有同理心、谦逊 

It creates space for empathy,humility

和好学的人们创造了空间

and a willingness to learn

我会说“我不知道”

I choose to say' don't know'

于是我选择去探索

So I'm empowered to ask

选择去聆听

to listen

我认为真正地学到东西

I believe an important type of learning takes place

就发生在不经意间

Especially in moments of uncertainty.

正是因为我们对未知的

It's what we don't know

渴望和探索

and how we navigate it.

让我们一直在勇往直前

that will set us apart moving forward.

我希望你们能勇敢地

I encourage you to dive into

跳出舒适圈去探究一切

the deep end of discomfort

带着一颗初学者的心

and bring with you

用“无知”的心态去探索

an ethic of not knowing
