俞敏洪老师演讲分享：真诚，就是人生的捷径

我从北京大学毕业的时候

I was number five from the bottom

成绩是办理倒数第五名

when I graduated from Peking university

我一直特别崇拜那些优等生

Usually I look upon my classmates as my example

他们在北大毕业后

Most of my classmates went to the United States

大部分都要去美国留学

after they graduate from Peking university

我也想追随他们的步伐出国

I tried to follow them

但供我选择的只有一些州立大学

then I applied for like maybe some state universities

比如夏威夷、阿拉斯加的学校

for Hawaii or Alaska

但就连这些大学也不想要我

But even these universities do not want me

所以，我只能留在中国

So I have to stay in China here

成天无所事事

There are nothing to do

所以，我开始去培训学校教书

So, I began to go out to training school to teach

因为我的妻子告诉我

Because my wife has told me

如果你赚不到钱

if you do not make any money

如果你出不了国

and if you can’t go abroad

那我们最后只能离婚

then the only thing we can do is to get a divorce

还好到1995年底

By the end of 1995

我创立的新东方红火起来了

I already have about

那时我大约有一万名学生

10,000 students at the same time

同时在新东方学习

studying in New Oriental

我终于有钱出国了

And I got enough money like

大约存了三百万元

about three million RMB in my bank

所以我对自己说

So I said it is time

是时候去美国看看了

for me to go to United States to see

看看我是续上没做完的留学梦

whether I should go to study

还是努力把那群聪明同学们吸引回国

or I should attract my friends back here to

和我一起在中国工作

to China to work with me together

在美国工作的所有的同学里

All my classmates are studying in United States

有一部分人

and some of them

早就成了美国的大学教授

almost has become professors in American university

我挨个拜访了大约20个同学

I visited about twenty of my classmates

最后成功说明了4个人回国

and then I persuaded about four of them to come back

和我一起办好新东方

to work with me in Oriental

他们来的时候新东方还是个小学校

At that time it was a small school actually

但现在他们都已经成为亿万富翁了

那些留在美国的同学

Some of guys who stayed in the United States

他们既不想回中国发展

they didn’t want to come back

也不相信新东方能成功

They don’t think that Oriental will be a success

他们就待在美国

And they stay there

做着年薪50多万的工作

they are still only making like about

到现在也没太大变化

50,000 United States dollars every year

为什么前者愿意追随我这个差生呢

And these people believe in me

因为他们认为

because they think

即便我在大学里成绩不好

Even though my performance

看起来也不聪明

in the university is not so good

但他们认为我是个好人

But they think I’m a good person

而在大学里成为大家信得过的人

A good person is much more important

其实比追求分数重要得多

than a good academic performance in universities

因为他们觉得你值得信任

Because you make people believe in you

值得追随一生

And people like to follow

他们也坚信你会用自己的一生

they always think ever in your lifetime

去证明他们的信任没有错

you will never cheat other people
