当我还是个小女孩儿的时候
When I was a little girl
父亲总是对我说
My father always told me
印度的女人在她们年轻的时候
That an Indian woman when she’s young
依赖她的父亲
She’s dependent on her father
结婚之后
When she’s married
依赖她的丈夫
She’s dependent on her husband
等到她们老了
And when she’s old
又要依靠她的儿子
She’s dependent on her son
而我不希望看到你那样
And I don’t want you to be like that
我希望你能有独立的人格
I want you to have independence
能做自己命运的主人
I want you to be the master of your destiny
而做到这一点的唯一途径
And the only way you can do that
取决于你是否接受了教育
is if you are educated
以及能否自食其力
And you can stand on your own two feet
